Self Improvement Begins from Within
 The Self-Help Directory
Self improvement must begin from within as we strive to develop a good character and personality. We must work steadily towards our desires for self growth and we would in due course obtain a fulfilling and rewarding life and strengthen our innate abilities.
Our ultimate success or failure depends upon our self improvement. We must make a serious and honest assessment of ourselves - the way we think and the way we conduct our lives. We all have shortcomings and failures and it is up to us to improve ourselves, but we have to begin from within us. We may not realize what a setback we have been in our own lives until it is late. Oh, how we wish that we could undo much of the foolish things we have done. Well, we cannot change the past, but we can have some measure of control over the present and insist on self improvement to shape the future.
You can be truly successful in all areas of life.
To be truly successful we must not ignore our spiritual growth.Very often we ignore the spiritual side of life and tend to overlook the vast importance of our spiritual growth without which we cannot obtain our full potential of personal improvement. This is not in reference to any religion, but rather to our personal spiritual relationship with God. It is also necessary to
eradicate any existing bad habit(s)
, whatever your addiction, and improve your thought patterns.
This means that you have to make a concerted effort to
build your self esteem and develop self confidence
- not forgetting your spiritual growth and unbounded trust in God allowing him to direct your path. These are the first steps in self growth to achieving self improvement and experiencing a happy and rewarding life.
You must also endeavor to make a personal change by emulating successful people. The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People: Powerful Lessons in Personal Change by Stephen R. Covey is highly recommended reading.

However, merely desiring to see a difference in your lifestyle will not make a difference; "desire" must be coupled with "action" in order to bring about meaningful change. Being mediocre is just not good enough; but, whatever you do, be sure to read the PHENOMENAL package One Question to Success. You are the only person who can bring about self improvement in your life, no one else can.
When someone gives you something of value, that object may add to your personal improvement because you have received benefit, but it is not self improvement.
Bear in mind that - apart from your spiritual relationship with God - the greatest element, the key ingredient, the fundamental characteristic, the principal component, or the greatest factor for self improvement is primarily you, the person; because if you do not make an effort to improve yourself no one else can improve you.
So, remember that in order to improve yourself,
building self-esteem and self-confidence
are among the vital steps that must first be taken.
Self improvement is initiated by you for you. When you make an effort to improve your health, manage your weight, enhance your appearance, upgrade your standard of education, and such like, that is self improvement.
Now personal improvement encompasses all of that, but it goes a bit further in that it also includes benefits gained from your personal possessions or belongings such as car, home, finances, even your hobbies. So anything that gives you pleasure is for your personal improvement, even if it was
brought about by someone else. Why? Because those things become personal to you. You have benefited personally, even though your
character has not improved.
Take a step and keep moving, or stand still and get nowhere.
Remember that to be a success you have to make an effort to achieve self improvement. You can never walk to another place if you keep standing in the same place all the time; you have to put one foot forward, then the other, and keep up that pattern until you reach your destination or you soon will not be able to stand at all and, obviously, will get nowhere. Your self improvement is your means of transport for your journey to a happy and rewarding life.
